The Angular Material Search-select control library implements a “select search” or “select with search” control, to match (and build on) an Angular material. To provide the user interface, the Table of Materials autocomplete control is used; But the result is not an autocomplete per se, it’s really a search selection, aimed at selecting an item from the list.

How does it work and why

This control handles cases where the displayed ‘Name’ does not match the internal identifier. As a developer using this control, you provide ways to translate from ID to DisplayName, and to look up data during a selection.

Both directions of data search/lookup are asynchronous handles, suitable for a long database-based list of searchable items.

We’ve found this issue to appear regularly in our projects, and we’ve finally created this reusable solution. This repository/project contains both the component itself and the screens showing its use.
